Youth Volunteer Opportunities
Calling all Volunteers!

Come out and help make this year’s the best WE can be!

Do you have leadership/organizational skills that you would like to expand?

Do you have experience in either music or sounds systems that you would like to share? Do you enjoy working with Pets!

Volunteer positions include:
Total commitment to this volunteer position is 40 hours
4 hour per shift.
Between Aug. 17th – 27th, 2006.

Volunteer Position Details:
Runners
Runners will assist the Program Department in several areas:
  • Assisting the different Program Venues on an individual basis
  • Picking up and dropping off equipment around the site,
  • Assisting other Program Staff with their duties
  • Holding heads at the Fernandez Show. (Requires instruction from Fernandez the hypnotist)
There are three 4 hour shifts available for runners: 11:00am – 3:00pm, 3:00pm – 7:00pm, 7:00pm - midnight

Program Office Attendant
The Program Office Attendant staffs the Program Office from 6:00pm - 11:30pm. They perform many office related duties including:

  • Answering the phone
  • Assisting performers in various ways
  • Some general computer work and
  • Serving as an information person for the Programming Staff team
Stage Hands
Stage Hands are people who assist the Super Stage, Pizza Pizza Stage and CHEZ Stage Managers with any stage related work. The Super Stage is where our big concerts are. The Pizza Pizza Stage is a band stage and the CHEZ Stage is for vocalists. Their duties may include:
  • Load in and out of “STAR” performers equipment and gear
  • Getting required food and drink for the Super Stage artists
  • Selling merchandise for “STAR” performers
  • Setting up and taking down sound equipment
  • Moving props on and off the stage etc
This person must have knowledge about bands and some familiarity with sound/lighting equipment. There are three shifts available for Stage Hands: 12:00am – 3:00pm, 3:00pm – 7:00pm, 7:00pm – 11:00pm
Mascot Shadow
A Mascot Shadow is someone who assists the Mascot in several ways: The Mascot Shadow may be required to go on ride therefore the Shadow must be able to meet all the safety requirements to be able to ride as well as height restrictions.
  • Helping the mascot put his/her costume on
  • Being beside the mascot at all times to assist in anyway such as carrying a water bottle for the mascot
  • Helping to hand out any give a ways
  • Answering any questions the public may have regarding the mascot
There are three shifts available for Mascot Shadows: 11:00am – 2:00pm, 2:00pm – 5:00pm, 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Sound Technicians
The sound technicians work in the Petfest building setting up and running the sound system consisting of microphones and recorded music. These volunteers MUST have had previous experience with sound equipment such as a high school audio -visual club. These volunteers have to be approved by our sound and light company.
  • Setting up microphones as required
  • Ensuring that sound levels and volume are appropriate
  • Cueing music as required
  • Ensuring sound equipment is secure
The sound technicians work in pairs from 12 noon to 9PM daily.
Homecraft Assistants
The homecraft area contains crafts, baked goods and other items entered into a judged competition. The Assistants work in the Pure Country Pavilion and help a core of other volunteers arranging the exhibits.
  • Help to place arrange and place enteries in display cases
  • Setting up the judging areas on 3 of the 11 days
  • Watering plants and dusting the showcases
Duration: Aug 14, 15 & 16 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. All other days 9:00am to 11:30am
Media Assistants
The media office is responsible for a number of areas; such as issuing press releases, maintaining media relations as well as staffing and operating the Guest Relations booth.
  • Answering visitors questions at the Guest Relations booth
  • Distributing the daily event guide throughout the site
  • Helping to staff media events during SuperEX
  • Working in the media trailer, signing media in and out, distributing their credentials and directing media to appropriate parking areas.
  • Help at the Wednesday August 16th Preview Reception
Duration: 11:00am – 3:00pm, 3:00pm – 7:00pm, 7:00pm – 11:00pm
Preview reception shifts will last all day starting at 12 noon to 10pm

Petfest Assistants
Petfest is an 11-day pet show. Assistants will aid the building coordinator with numerous tasks.

  • Feeding animals
  • Helping with a snake show
  • Staffing some displays
  • Maintaining tidiness of the show ring and stages
  • Watering plants
  • Helping to set up the building
  • Handing out coupons
  • Helping to herd dogs in and out of the building
Duration: 11:00am – 4:00pm, 4:00pm – 9:00pm. There will be duties to perform for building set-up from August 14 to 17, 2006 at times to be determined.
